As the weather gets warmer and the sun is shining, it's the perfect opportunity to get outside and mix fun with learning! Below are three games you can play with my free tricky word eggs download.
What you need for the games:
Before jumping into the fun, let’s ensure you have everything you need:
Tricky Word Eggs: Print and cut our the Tricky word eggs from the download at the end of the post. Laminate them for durability if you plan outdoor play or play the water version of the game.
Water spray bottles/ Water guns or bath squirters: Fill these with water for our squirting game.
A timer or stopwatch (optional): This adds excitement by timing how quickly your child finds or reads the words.
Game 1: Egg Hunt - Find and Read
One of the easiest ways to use your Tricky Word Eggs is through a fun egg hunt.
How to play:
Hide the eggs in your house or garden. Choose spots that are accessible but still offer a challenge.
Set the rules: Explain that once they find an egg, they must read the word aloud before searching for the next one. This boosts their reading skills while adding an element of excitement. If they are unable to read the word, read it for them as this helps them learn to recognise the word.
How many words did they find? Get them to read all the words they have collected.
Game 2: Water Squirting Challenge

On a hot day, nothing beats a bit of water play! The Water Squirting Challenge is perfect for making learning refreshing and fun.
How to play:
Create a word wall: Laminate your tricky words for durability and lay them out on a flat surface or pin them up on a wall.
Ready, Set, SQUIRT!: Stand at a distance and call out a tricky word. Your child will dash to squirt the correct egg with the spray bottle or squirter.
Add some competition: Use a stopwatch or timer. How quickly can you find and squirt the word? If multiple children are playing, turn it into a friendly contest!
Game 3: Relay Race
This game puts a fun spin on the traditional relay race.
How to play:
Set up the course: Use items around your home or garden to create a simple obstacle course.
Place the Tricky Word Eggs at one end of the course. Runners will race to the eggs.
Read before you run: As a participant reaches the eggs, they must read a word aloud before racing back to tag the next player.
Challenge them to run backward, hop, or balance an object on their head while returning!
